Two Brooklyn boys were charged with a felony hate crime today following a brutal attack that left a 14-year-old blind in one eye.
According to police, Kardin Ulysse was beaten and called gay slurs in the cafeteria of Roy Mann Junior High School last month.
As juveniles, the two boys will be tried in family court and face a maximum of 18 months at a juvenile detention center.
The judge let the boys go under the supervision of their parents and issued a 7:30 p.m. curfew. They are due back in court Aug. 20.
The family of Ulysse has filed a $16 million lawsuit against the city for what they say was a failure to supervise students. They also plan to file a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against the city's Department of Education.
