Tech innovators from across the country are coming together in Red Hook to come up with ways to help Brooklyn prepare for natural disasters.
The two-day event runs from Oct. 9 to Oct. 11 and features dozens of tech savvy men and women working on projects aimed to help communities prepare, respond and recover from natural disasters.
The hackathon is being held in Red Hook because it is a neighborhood that was hit hard by Superstorm Sandy.
Hackathon organizer Meredith Lee says one of the inventions inspired by the event was a chlorine maker that can be used during natural disasters to convert salt water to chlorine.
The event is being sponsored by several nonprofit and private companies.
