Two people died after their boat capsized in rough waters in Jamaica Bay Friday night.
Police say a boat with five people aboard flipped over at around 8 p.m.
They say somehow the passengers were able to grab the attention of police in the area who helped get them out of the water.
The NYPD aviation unit was able to help rescue the five victims.
A 50-year-old man and 42-year-old man, both from Brooklyn, were transported to Beth Israel Medical Center, where they later died.
The other three victims suffered minor injuries and are expected to be OK.
