A fire broke out just after 8 p.m. Friday night in an apartment building in the Grand Concourse section of the Bronx.
According to FDNY, it started on the first floor of the six-story building at 2877 Grand Concourse. Two civilians sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi.
Residents said that the building maintenance has been neglected for some time now. The city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development shows that the property has over 50 open violations since 2017.
An HPD spokesperson says, "Anyone experiencing unsafe or unhealthy conditions in their home may report the problems by calling 311 if the building owner is not addressing their concerns."
The FDNY says that fire marshals are still investigating the cause.
News 12 reached out to the building management for a statement but they may be closed for the holiday weekend.
