Police are looking for the two men wanted for attacking a teenager.
Officials say the 16-year-old boy was beaten early Friday morning by a group of men at the intersection of Empire and Albany avenues. According to officials, the men also robbed him before leaving the scene. Investigators believe the attackers took the teen?s money, bike and cell phone.
A Good Samaritan found the teen lying in the street. The boy was bloody, bruised and unconscious. The city?s Shomrin Society says the teen suffered head injuries so severe that he couldn?t remember his name when he came to.
Authorities believe the two attackers were black, and that the victim was a Hasidic Jew. Tension between blacks and Jews in the area is nothing new, and fights between the groups have erupted before. But some neighbors aren?t ready just yet to call this incident a hate crime.
?A lot of this happens not because of black versus white, Jewish or gentile, it comes because of jealousy,? Isaac Hager says. Neighbor Janice Blading agrees, saying the attackers probably just wanted the money.
Police say the victim was taken to the hospital for his injuries. According to police, he was treated and has since been released.
Some neighbors say that while they may not know what prompted the attack, they can offer a solution to end it. They believe education is the key to solving any conflict, because the more groups know about each other, the sooner they will be able to come together as one.
Officials have not yet said if they have any suspects in the incident.
