Police say two pedestrians were struck by cars, one fatally, Thursday morning in Bedford-Stuyvesant on different streets.
Witnesses say a 58-year-old woman was crossing Atlantic Avenue when a fuel truck turned the corner near Rochester Avenue and hit her, killing her on impact. Those who witnessed the accident say the driver stopped the truck immediately, jumped out and began crying over the woman?s body, screaming ?I?m sorry.? The driver was issued a summons for not yielding to a pedestrian.
Just a few minutes after the first accident, a bike rider was hit at the intersection of Bushwick Avenue and Suydam Street. Victor Vasques, who witnessed the accident, says he saw the 68-year-old bike rider smash into the windshield before he was thrown into the air. The bike rider is said to be in serious condition with trauma to the head.
Police are investigating both accidents but say criminal charges are not likely to be filed since both drivers had green lights.
