It's been two years since a major fire ripped through a building in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, and tenants say they are still not back in their homes.

On July 26, 2012, a seven-alarm fire destroyed an entire apartment building on New York Avenue. Today, those who lived in the building gathered for a rally to call attention to their emotional and financial struggles.

News 12 is told the fire was caused by a lightning strike on the roof. More than 100 people were affected.

Rent-stabilized apartments were completely gutted in the fire, and possessions were totally lost. Many former residents say they have been living in shelters, staying with family members, or have found more expensive housing.

Tenants say no real repairs have been made to the building they once called home. They are calling on the landlord, Kings and Queens Holdings LLC and Urban American Management, to restore their homes.

News 12 reached out to the landlord and building company, but has not yet received a response.
