The program is one of the major initiatives being run by the MTA in the Faster, Cleaner, Safer plan to improve subway ridership. The repairs include concrete repairs and water mitigation efforts to replace tiles along the walls of stations.
The MTA says these changes took place during outages that were planned for other reasons on weekends in order to minimize transit delays.
“I think it’s great,” said one subway rider. “They should make it cleaner, it’s always good to have a cleaner evnrionment. It’s better, no more rats.”
The MTA says its goal is to complete 50 station renovations by the end of 2023.
