Members of the community came together to celebrate the life of Alissa Kolenovic, who was struck and killed by a box truck at the intersection of Paulding and Neill avenues one year ago.
Kolenovic was crossing the intersection on her way to school when she was struck by a delivery truck. The street is now being named in her honor.
Family and friends gathered to mourn the loss of the 16-year-old, coming together for the street renaming with Council Member Marjorie Velazquez. They are calling for more work to be done to improve the safety of the roads.
Two weeks after the incident, speed bumps were installed near the intersection on Paulding Avenue, as well as all-way stop signs.
Sen. Nathalia Fernandez says the next step is for stoplights to be put along Paulding Avenue.
