A new campaign aims to help New Yorkers come together to improve the safety and security of members of the LGBTQ+ community.
The All Places Safe Spaces campaign is led by the NYC Antiviolence Project and aims to bring awareness to safety concerns for queer people.
The initiative includes outreach, speaking with pride allies and LGBTQ community members about safety and training New Yorkers to help advocate for LGBTQ+ people.
“We are experiencing hate in all different fonts, and we as LGBTQ people, just like everyone else, deserve safety wherever we are,” said Orie Givens, director of communications for the NYC Antiviolence Project.
The nonprofit says it has spent the last four decades supporting members of the queer community who are survivors of violence, threats, domestic and hate crime incidents. All Places Safe Spaces aims to push back against the violence that they endure.
Givens adds that LGBTQ+ safety concerns shouldn’t stop with the LGBTQ+ community.
“It takes a community, it takes a village, to make sure that everyone can be safe,” said Givens.
The NYC Antiviolence Project says other than visiting their website, you can catch them at pride festivals and events throughout the five boroughs.
