Islip Fire Department holds blood drive in honor of fallen FDNY firefighter Billy Moon

Dozens of people rolled up their sleeves Wednesday to help save lives in honor of a fallen FDNY hero from Long Island.
The New York Blood Center and Islip Fire Department hosted a blood drive for Billy Moon, who suffered a fatal head injury while getting ready for a training exercise in December.
Kristina Moon, his widow, was among the people who donated blood. She says giving blood saves lives and that it's something her husband did on a daily basis.
Billy Moon was a 20-year veteran of the FDNY who also served as Islip fire chief. He also saved the lives of five people in death through organ donations.
There was an area for people to sign up to be an organ donor at the event in honor of Billy Moon.
"People have told me they signed up to be an organ donor because of Billy," Kristina Moon says. "They're inspired by his story, and to me, that just makes it more important to keep sharing his story."
The blood drive continues until 9 p.m.
Organizers say they are especially in need of O-negative and O-positive blood.
