The city’s Department of Sanitation is taking action on complaints made by Mount Eden residents who say illegal car repairs being made in their streets are making it difficult to find parking in the neighborhood.

The Department of Sanitation told News 12 that they towed away one of the vehicles involved in these repair operations on Monday morning, but many parts of the neighborhood still have repairs going on, particularly by Nelson Avenue and West 172nd Street.

Mount Eden residents say they’ve made multiple 311 complaints but that no city agency stepped in to help until the past few days. The DSNY told News 12 that they are only allowed to tow away cars that do not have license plates, have a value under $1,250, and are unclaimed after being tagged.

News 12 reached out to the Department of Sanitation regarding their ongoing enforcement efforts for illegally fixing cars in the street and is awaiting a response.
