Death of 1-year-old Brooklyn girl deemed a homicide, police say

Police responded to 718 Saint Marks Ave. on Sept. 15 at 6:43 p.m. following a report of an unconscious child inside the apartment.

A 1-year-old girl who was found unconscious and bruised inside a Brooklyn apartment has died.

Police responded to 718 Saint Marks Ave. on Sept. 15 at 6:43 p.m. following a report of an unconscious child inside the apartment. First responders located the 1-year-old girl and transported her to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County in critical condition.

On Sept. 20, she was pronounced dead by hospital staff at Maimonides Medical Center.

Police have now deemed the case a homicide. No arrests have been announced at this time.

A representative from ACS has provided the following statement:

"The safety and well-being of New York City's children is our top priority.  We are investigating this case with the NYPD."
