Brooklyn borough president unveils plan he says will address inequities across the borough

Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso laid out a "Comprehenisve Plan for Brooklyn," which Reynoso said will address inequities and issues the borough is facing.
"These inequities and the poor outcomes they lead to are not happenstance," Reynoso said. "They are a direct result of New York City's failure to plan."
The 200-page plan tackles issues including housing, health and income.
"We see disparities in the fact that between parts of Park Slope and parts of Brownsville, life expectancy can differ by nearly a decade and immediate household income varies by as much as $125,000," said Reynoso.
Pages in the plan are outlined with maps showing those issues and disparities, which Reynoso's office said were discovered based on city data and suggestions. That includes developing more affordable housing in areas that have not seen fast development, focusing on transit-oriented development and reducing food insecurity.
"The plan is not a substitute for citywide comprehensive planning, but for local planning efforts," Reynoso said. "It is not a rezoning proposal, and it's not something I can implement entirely on my own."
Reynoso said he will need other city agencies, elected leaders and community members to be on board, some of which he says are already aware of the plan.
"We can change minds through information, and that's what I'm hoping to do here," Reynoso said.
In the meantime, the borough president said discussions will continue with elected officials. He added he will also make his case to Mayor Eric Adams.
