Members of the Institutional International Ministries church in Fort Greene took their prayers outside the four walls of the church on Saturday, bringing them directly into the community.

"It is vital for us as a faith community to let our community know that we love them and that God loves them and that there is hope beyond their circumstance," said Pastor Williams, who led the prayer walk.

The group prayed and chanted throughout the streets of Fort Greene, mostly within the Whitman and Ingersoll Houses. They made a handful of strategic stops along the way to pray for different issues affecting the community, from gun violence and homelessness to suicide and domestic abuse.

"Our goal was to bring our message from the pulpit to the projects" said Pastor Williams. "This is where the killing is happening, this is where drug addicts are inhabiting, this is where young people are being recruited into the gangs."

The group hopes their prayers will bring healing to this community and across the city.
