East New York resident faced with broken sink

An East New York resident is struggling to feel thankful this Thanksgiving holiday due to a lack of running water in his home.
Sayquon Johnson tells News 12 he’s had water leaking through the pipes, leaving his sink inoperable and a puddle on his kitchen floor for the last two weeks.
Johnsons says this started when a leak was found behind the wall that required maintenance staff to remove his sink, cabinets, and then the wall itself.
So far, the only fixes made to those removals are tarps covering the hole.
“There’s no action,” said Johnson. “Water might come out any minute and its going to bust out and shoot all over the floor.”
Johnson says he and his wife spend around $250 a week on take-out food and bottled water as they cannot cook in their kitchen with no sink. He says they also face rodents that run out of the wall and foul smells.
The city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development said the following in a statement:
“Every New Yorker deserves to have a safe and comfortable place to call home – HPD is highly active in this building in response to all tenant complaints and issues violations where needed. We will continue to respond to all other requests with equal urgency.”
The management company of Johnson’s building provided the following statement:
“R.Y. Management Co., Inc. takes the health and well-being of Linden Plaza residents seriously, and it remains a top priority. We have been in touch with the tenant, Mr. Johnson, and are working closely with him to resolve this issue. We aim to complete the repairs by tomorrow in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.”
