Adanne Books opened its door two weeks ago in Bedford-Stuyvesant, where customers who walk in will find shelves of books on different topics and from a span of genres.

Darlene Okpo, the store's owner, said she has been welcomed by the community. Several of her neighbors have also stopped by and shopped.

"Books are amazing," Okpo said. "They take you to a place that I feel fulfils your imaginary mind – where you can explore and create this movie in your head."

Her store also offers other items for sale, including vinyl records and T-shirts.

Okpo previously owned a bookstore in Dumbo but was forced to move due to several issues and disagreements. She said Bed-Stuy was an easy choice to move to.

"I would always do a mini survey, like, 'hey where are you guys coming from,'" Okpo said. "And Bed-Stuy was always the location."

She added she is looking to make new additions. That includes a cafe and workshops.

Adanne Books is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7p.m., and then Sundays from 12 p.m. to 6p.m. The store is located at 115 Ralph Avenue.
