A mural dedicated to the late rapper Pop Smoke was vandalized in his home neighborhood of Canarsie.

Family and friends of the rapper expressed their deep disappointment of the act. Community members say the vandalism took place last Friday and that police have been notified since.

The artist who created this mural and supporters of Pop Smoke came together to clean it up to ensure the mural remains a proper reflection of his life.

"Pop Smoke is a role model to the youth out there," said mural artist Kenny Altidor. "I believe if he was still alive, his music, he would probably do music to send a message to the world."

The NYPD says this investigation is ongoing.
