Many laws introduced by state and city lawmakers this year will go into effect on New Year’s Day.

The minimum wage in New York City, Westchester and Long Island will increase to $16 while the rest of the state will increase to $15.

Another law addresses water safety and security in NYCHA buildings. NYCHA will be required to notify tenants in writing within 24 hours regarding whether water is safe for cooking or drinking. The installation of keyless security devices to gain access to building common areas will be prohibited without written consent from the building and relevant parties.

News 12’s Shakti Denis goes over the various new laws to watch out for in 2024.
