Having a baby is known to be a lucky way to ring in the new year and for those babies born at or near the stroke of midnight, it's often celebrated.

One of the first babies born in the Bronx came into this world at 12:11 a.m. at the Jack D. Weiler Hospital at Montefiore. Adam Alshawabkeh weighed in at 7 pounds, 13.2 ounces and measured 18.5 inches long. His proud parents, Fatima and Omar, are Morris Park residents.

Over in Brooklyn, the clock struck exactly midnight when the first baby was born in the city's public health system in the new year. The still unnamed baby boy was born to mom and Rafael Abitbul, who was born to the same doctor at the same hospital 23 years earlier.

The newborn weighed in at 7 pounds, 12.5 ounces and measured 21 inches long at New York City Health and Hospitals South Brooklyn Health.
