Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced on Thursday that a Brooklyn man has been sentenced to just under a decade in prison for opening fire in Brownsville and striking a marked police car that was on patrol.

In a press release regarding the sentencing, Gonzalez said the “NYPD detective was spared more serious injuries when this defendant fired a barrage of approximately nine rounds in broad daylight”.

The defendant, Jah-Mike Woolridge, 28, is a Brownsville resident. Woolridge pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted assault on Jan. 10.

The incident, which took place at 4:30 p.m. on June 23, 2022, happened after Woolridge got into an argument with a 23-year-old man. Woolridge fired shots at that man, striking the police car that was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Legion Street and Pitkin Avenue.

The 23-year-old’s vehicle was also struck by gunfire in the incident, but he was not injured.
