Many people with non-violent criminal records struggle to get back on their feet and find jobs and housing.
It's something one man from Brooklyn is working hard to change.
Former Brooklyn borough president candidate Khari Edwards spent the last few years helping people clear their records of non-violent criminal offenses. His team at AYR Wellness organizes expungement clinics in cities across the country every Black History Month.
The clinics take place in Brooklyn as well, partnering with community groups and legal teams to help people work through the necessary steps to expunge their records.
"Tou have all of these people who are imprisoned by something even though they're not in prison... just understanding something as simple as getting an apartment... housing is something we're struggling with, health case is something we're struggling with, and just to give somebody the ability to have that opportunity is really life changing," said Edwards.
