Two separate shootings in Crown Heights left one person dead and another injured over the weekend. Now, residents in the area tell News 12 they're living with fear.

A memorial with dozens of candles lines the sidewalk outside the Sterling Place home of 40-year-old shooting victim Lavel Fraiser. Fraiser was shot in the torso just after midnight on Sunday and died hours after in the hospital.

A 23-year-old man was shot in the leg on Kingsborough 7th Walk over the weekend as well and is currently in the hospital.

This marks the fifth person shot in the last two weeks in Crown Heights. Four of the victims who were shot in these incidents died, including a 13-year-old boy and a bodega worker.

The recent uptick in violence has renewed calls from the community for more resources to fight back against gun violence. A new push to pass the Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Act has started; it was introduced by state Assembly Member Brian Cunningham.

Police have not made any arrests in the deadly shooting of Fraiser and the investigation is ongoing.
