FDNY: 7 firefighters injured in 4-alarm Bensonhurst home fire

The fire started on the second floor and was raised to a three-alarm fire at 1:39 p.m.

Seven firefighters were injured while battling a four-alarm fire that impacted multiple buildings in Bensonhurst on Tuesday afternoon, according to the FDNY.

Fire officials say that the fire started just after 1 p.m. at 2050 71st St. between 20th and 21st avenues. The fire started on the first floor and made its way to the second floor. It was raised to a four-alarm fire just before 3 p.m.

The FDNY says that seven firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the flames. Multiple buildings were affected and four families were displaced by the fire. Officials say there is extensive damages to both buildings.

City Council Member Susan Zhuang tells News 12 she is actively working with the families who were impacted.

The Red Cross is working with those impacted by the fire to provide emergency resources.

Inspectors from the Department of Buildings say that they found fire damage to 2048, 2050, 2052, and 2056 71st Street. They found that 2048, 2050 and 2052 have sections of their roofs missing as well as destroyed doors and windows.

The DOB has issued a vacate order for all four of the buildings in question.

No injuries have currently been reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
