Police have confirmed a 66-year-old woman was found dead Tuesday afternoon in Flatlands.

Officers say the woman was found on her bedroom floor with multiple stab wounds at her home on East 56th Street, not far from the intersection with Flatlands Avenue at about 3:15 p.m.

Police say the woman was unconscious and unresponsive before EMS arrived and pronounced her dead.

Residents told News 12 the neighborhood is very safe, and the woman was very kind to everyone she interacted with.

"That's so sad to know that something happened to her like that," one resident said. "Maybe it was somebody she knew, it's so sad. I am so disappointed and really disheartened to know that this happened."

Police say at this time no arrests have been made but sources tell News 12 authorities are questioning a family member.

The medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.

News 12 reached out to the medical examiner's office for a comment but has not heard back as of Wednesday night.
