Do you have tattered clothes that need repair?

A local artist might be able to help, despite having just learned to sew a few days ago.

The performance artist mends more than just clothing.

In September, Brandon Woolf had no sewing experience.

In less than a week, he learned to use an antique sewing machine to fix people’s clothes for free.

The installation is called "The Mend" and artist Woolf will mend your clothing and chat with you.

“He woke up blind in the left eye, and somehow, the internet presented him with this project. He came all the way across Brooklyn to ask me to make an eyepatch," said Woolf about one of his visitors.

Woolf’s mission is to foster connections during this election season.

“These election cycles are moments of great social anxiety and opportunities to create spaces of dialogue,” he explains.

He encounters various people; one man tells him, “I have a lot of clothes to fix, but I don't want to talk about politics!”

He will be outside the Central Library at Grand Army Plaza until Election Day, working to stitch together differences to find our common thread.

“They come away with some confidence and faith that new forms of collaboration might be possible, even as things seem dark,” Woolf adds.
