Council Member Banks: NYPD not doing enough to police prostitution along ‘Penn Track’

News 12 and New York City Council Member Chris Banks were on what is known as the Penn Strip in East New York on Tuesday morning – an area known for prostitution.
"We're seeing a constant, large amount of traffic,” says Banks. "They are going into the residential blocks and their illicit behaviors are taking place."
The area spans from Louisiana Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue – along Flatlands Avenue to Linden Boulevard.
"We get multiple complaints about this at council meetings, community board meetings, parents taking their children to school," says Banks, who says business there is 24/7.

Banks says it seems like law enforcement has given up on the issue. News 12 did see signs of NYPD lighting in place, though Banks pointed out that it doesn't work.
Within the last year, police have made six arrests for those engaging in prostitution and an additional 12 for those patronizing it. Banks says those are the arrests he wants to see more of.
News 12 asked police what their plans are for additional safety measures. The NYPD says they are focusing on patrolling efforts in the area.
