NYC's smallest school could close in months
NYC Department of Education proposes closing P.S. 25 in Bed-Stuy due to poor enrollment.
The smallest school in the city, with just under 50 K-5 students and less than 10 teachers, could be closed by the end of the school year.
The city's Department of Education is proposing to close P.S. 25 in Bed-Stuy, saying in an education impact statement last month that it is due to "persistent challenges with enrollment and demand"
If approved at a Panel for Education Policy vote in Feburary, it would close at the end of the school year and students would be placed in schools that align with their needs for the 2025-26 school year.
The Committee Education Council for District 16 has been reaching out to the community for input on what should happen to the space should P.S. 25 close. They also say lack of resources and increased costs have led to lower enrollment.
