A local nonprofit is stepping up to help residents who may have to fight to stay in their homes amid skyrocketing rents.
The Flatbush Development Corporation has two case managers assisting around 100 people each month to navigate affordable housing systems and prevent evictions.
It helps clients apply for affordable housing options, like Catholic Charities Senior Housing and Housing Connect.
“There’s just not enough funding around to serve all of the organizations here, and there’s not enough funding to help all the families that need help,” said FDC executive director Robin Redmond.
The organization, celebrating its 50th anniversary, has seen demand for its services increase dramatically in recent years, while funding has declined.
Redmond said she believes the Flatbush Development Corporation will continue to make a difference, despite the challenges, because of the dedication of its staff.
