Mopeds may soon have a legal way to cross into Manhattan under a new proposal from the city’s Department of Transportation.
The plan would allow mopeds with license plates to use the Brooklyn Bridge and the lower roadway of the Queensboro Bridge.
Currently, mopeds are not permitted on bridge roadways or bike lanes, forcing many riders to take alternative routes or cross illegally.
The DOT says the change would primarily benefit delivery workers who rely on mopeds to travel between boroughs.
The proposal does not include the Williamsburg or Manhattan bridges and excludes e-bikes.
A public hearing is scheduled for April 14, where New Yorkers will be able to weigh in on the proposal.
