Brighton Beach community mourns loss of 45-year-old Elijah Scott
Police are still searching for the suspect, who they said fled the scene on an electric scooter.

Police said Elijah Scott was shot and killed just a few steps away from his home on Brighton 12th Street.
Outside the apartment building, there are candles, heartfelt messages and photos of the 45-year-old man in his memory.
Neighbors and friends of Scott tell News 12 the impact of his death is felt throughout the entire neighborhood. They will now continue to remember him as the protector of everyone on his block.
“He was like a safeguard around here,” said one friend who stood by his vigil. “He didn’t let anything go down. He was protecting everybody, all his neighbors. He's going to be missed so much, by a lot of people over here.”
Police are still searching for the suspect, who they said fled the scene on an electric scooter.
