The United Federation of Teachers is leading a "Fix Tier 6" rally Tuesday to push for reforms to a state pension plan they say puts newer teachers at a disadvantage.
Teachers hired after April 1, 2012, fall under Tier 6 of the state pension system.
Unlike their Tier 4 colleagues, who can retire at 55 with 30 years of service, Tier 6 teachers must work until age 63 to receive full retirement benefits.
“It’s not good,” said Edline Osias, of Brownsville. “Sometimes you get tired, like you need to retire, so it’s not good."
Tuesday's rallies are scheduled at locations, including Brooklyn’s Borough Hall and near Yankee Stadium.
