It’s a sea of patriotism this week as Fleet Week New York gets underway, and Fort Hamilton is helping kick things off in a big way.

The U.S. Army base in Bay Ridge hosted its annual “Salute to Ships” Wednesday morning—featuring an 11-volley cannon salute as military vessels sail under the Verrazano Bridge and into New York Harbor.

This year’s Parade of Ships included a powerful lineup:

  • The USS New York and USS Oak Hill from the U.S. Navy

  • Two U.S. Coast Guard cutters

  • Naval Academy Yard Patrol training boats

  • And Canada’s HMCS Frédérick Rolette

Fleet Week is an annual tradition that gives New Yorkers a chance to meet active-duty service members and tour ships docked around the city. It also includes public events, performances, and community outreach throughout the week.

Military officials say the salute at Fort Hamilton is just the beginning of several patriotic moments across the five boroughs in the days ahead.
