City orders everyone out of several buildings after massive Bed-Stuy fire
FDNY says the cause of the fire is still under investigation. So far, no word on whether it was arson.

A huge fire in Bed-Stuy has now led the city to shut down three buildings on Lafayette Avenue.
The fire started just after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at 922 Lafayette Ave. and quickly spread next door to 920, 918 and 924 Lafayette. Thick smoke filled the air, and bright orange flames were seen shooting from the homes.
FDNY says 150 firefighters and EMS workers showed up to stop the flames. Two firefighters were hurt, but their injuries were not serious.
Now, the Department of Buildings says it’s not safe for anyone to live in three of the buildings. 920 and 922 Lafayette were hit the hardest—both had major fire and structural damage, and now both have full vacate orders.
918 had major water and smoke damage throughout all levels and was issued a full vacate order as well. 924 Lafayette had some smoke and water damage. That building got a partial vacate order, and city inspectors also found an illegal basement apartment.
One neighbor believes the fire wasn’t an accident: “I believe they set it on fire. I swear. I believe they did it intentionally,” they told News 12.
