Young Kim, CEO of Julibee Marketplace in Greenpoint, says he's lowering his prices for the people and competitors.

Julibee Marketplace is an independent and local supermarket in Greenpoint.

He said the choice to lower his prices about 30% below markup prices was sparked by trying to compete with other large retailers and feedback from customers.

"I think what really kind of got to me is when customers would travel to a different neighborhood, which is Williamsburg, when they live in Greenpoint - just to get cheaper or more affordable groceries," said Kim.

While this is great news for customers, it is a risk for Kim.

"If we do not have enough volume to support it, we probably will close," said Kim.

Kim said he and his team are terrified for the future, but added he has faith the community will stand by and support Julibee.
