East New York tenant says mold in her apartment causing health concerns

An East New York woman says mold in her apartment has been making her sick for years, and despite repeated complaints, the problem still hasn’t been fixed.
Carolyn Wilson says she’s been living with mold since 2022.
She says the conditions have worsened her asthma and osteoporosis, and she believes her health is at serious risk.
"That's mold! The walls are bubbling up again!" Wilson exclaimed as she pointed out damage inside her apartment.
Workers were sent to the unit in January and appeared to identify the problem, a pipe that was likely leaking moisture into the wall.
“They only put cardboard there and plastered over the cardboard and never did the work,” she said.
Wilson says she has filed dozens of complaints through the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development, but all have been closed.
In a statement to News 12, HPD says after a violation is written, it is the landlords' responsibility to correct it.
However, HPD mentioned one of its uninformed inspectors will stop by and inspect again and issue another violation if necessary.
“These walls are soaking wet, ” Wilson said. “So I don't know what they are waiting to happen besides me to die.”
News 12 also reached out to C&C Management, which oversees the property.
So far, it has not responded to requests for comment.
Wilson says she hopes to either be transferred to a new apartment or finally see the repairs completed.
