October marked seven years since 68-year-old Angela Padmore was told she had stage 2 breast cancer.

“I literally sat down on the floor and started to cry," said Padmore.

For 18 months the grandmother went through vigorous chemotherapy treatment. She lost her hair and had to get her right breast removed.

“Now that’s a tough decision for me and for any woman to make," said Padmore.

She credits her sons and grandson for giving her the strength to fight. In 2021, three years after her diagnosis and now in remission, Angela was still struggling.

“It all boils down to the fact that you’re never the same, you relive it, in your quiet moments you relive it," said Padmore.

Her son signed her up for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides walk in Coney Island. At first, Padmore says she was apprehensive, but she soon learned she could inspire other survivors and fighters in her community.
