The sister of the man accused of shooting an NYPD officer in Brownsville Monday morning spoke with News 12.

Dashawna Larode says she was sleeping inside the Thomas S. Boyland Street apartment she shares with her brother, Dashawn, when she was awoken by noise outside her window.

"I walked out to see what my brother was doing, and his last words were Dashawna just put your hands up," said Larode.

She says before she was able to understand what was happening, she heard gunshots.

“I heard over 6 rounds over 6 rounds and when I went to check back on him, he was on the ground slumped," said Larode.

She says she was inside the apartment for 30 minutes as her brother lay dying.

“I called my family and I’m like 'hey can you let the police know I’m still in here and that I really don’t know what to do and my brother’s on the ground he’s not moving,'" said Larode.

She later found out that her brother was accused of shooting their neighbor, something she says she can't picture him doing.

The investigation remains ongoing tonight.
