Ever since Daylight Saving ended, some Downtown Brooklyn residents say they’ve been left in the dark, and it’s making the area feel a lot less safe.

For weeks now, the lights that usually keep paths safe at Cadman Plaza Park have been off – just when community members say they need them most.

“I think if you ask anyone that passes through here, they're going to say the same thing,” said Peter Lu. “It's just too dark, and my main goal is to turn the lights back on. I hope it's not that complicated.”

Using flashlights to guide them, Lu and others have taken matters into their own hands.

However, for those passing through the park – like commuters trying to catch the train nearby or delivery couriers, that is not always an option.

“Unfortunately, this one little walkway here probably only fits two - three people wide,” said Lu. “So, when one of those motorized vehicles or bikes comes through at a very fast pace, anything gets in the way. People, children, people pushing strollers, leashes and dogs.”

“The park has many areas that are not level,” said Ricky Panken. “You can fall and hurt yourself. It can be very dangerous walking.”

News 12 was told that Council Member Lincoln Restler, who represents the area, has reached out to the Parks Department about the concerns.

“What’s the purpose of a park if you can’t use it?” questioned Panken.
