Manhole fires spark evacuation of seven-story Williamsburg building; 2 taken to hospital

A manhole fire sent dangerous carbon monoxide levels into a residential building, forcing dozens of people out of their homes early Wednesday morning.
It took FDNY more than five hours to contain the fire, and residents were finally allowed back inside 101 Humboldt St. just before noon.
Crews were called just after 3:20 a.m. after reports of carbon monoxide inside the seven-story building.
Once firefighters arrived, they detected elevated levels and learned that a manhole on the street were on fire. That’s when evacuations began.
The fire engulfing a parked SUV, completely charring the vehicle. The owner of the SUV tells news 12 he's thankful no one was hurt.
“My car was the only one that got burned out, what can you do, things happen," said Nacho, the owner of the car.
Con Edison and National Grid were on the scene making repairs to the gas line.
