The New York City council has passed a pilot program aimed at improving street cleanliness.

The city says it's one way to make sure bus shelters, bike stations and other public spaces are cleared of snow and ice.

This comes after the city saw two major snowstorms this year which left bus shelters and stops snowed in for days like in this video. The program will also hold private owners responsible for keeping their space clean plus track results with a full report due in two years
