LaGuardia Airport reopened following a deadly Sunday collision between an Air Canada jet and firetruck that killed two people.

The airport says operations have resumed and those traveling should expect residual delays and cancellations.

"Travelers are strongly encouraged to check with their carrier before departing for the airport," it said.

"Plan ahead and check with your airline for the latest updates," airport officials wrote in a statement on X.

Air Canada set up a phone line for family and friends of passengers on the flight for assistance – 1-800-961-7099.

In addition, drivers can expect residual delays on the Grand Central Parkway entrances and exits to and from LaGuardia Airport in Queens following a previous closure.

Early Monday, some passengers who had arrived at LaGuardia hours before their flights, hoping to beat security lines during the ongoing government funding lapse, straggled out of the airport and rebooked for Tuesday. Others were hastening to other airports, as far as Long Island MacArthur in suburban Ronkonkoma, to try to catch their flights.

Hundreds of flights were canceled and delayed.

LaGuardia was 19th busiest in 2024 out of more than 500 U.S. airports, with over 16.7 million passengers boarding there, according to a 2025 FAA database.

AP wires contributed to this report.
