Jewish families across the Hudson Valley are gathering to celebrate Passover, a holiday that began Wednesday night with traditional seder dinners.
Passover marks the time when Jewish people were enslaved in Egypt and later celebrated their freedom after reaching Israel.
At Chabad of Yonkers, leaders say the holiday is about reflection, freedom and community.
"Don't feel that, hey I didn't grow up so Jewish or I didn't grow up this way or I won't be able to do it," Rabbi Mendy Hurwitz of Chabad of Yonkers said at the end of his remarks. "Come out of your own Passover. Today we're free. Come out of your Passover."
Hurwitz said the celebrations are open and welcoming to everyone.
"By extending this and by living together and you know, we pray for the ultimate peace," he said.
Chabad of Yonkers is also holding a morning service today.
