A 32-year-old moped driver died after police say he crashed head-on into an MTA bus while fleeing officers in Bedford Park on Wednesday.
Investigators say the crash happened near East 205th Street and Jerome Avenue after officers attempted to stop the driver, identified as Andy Peralta, for traveling the wrong way on the roadway.
Police tell News 12 that Peralta did not stop and instead sped off, leading officers on a brief chase.
Authorities say that just minutes before the crash, Peralta made a U-turn and accelerated toward West Mosholu Parkway South, where he collided head-on with a BX-28 bus.
Witness video obtained by News 12 shows the moments leading up to the crash, capturing the moped speeding through the area as police attempted to intervene.
First responders rushed Peralta to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where officials say he died from severe head trauma.
At least 20 passengers were on board the bus at the time of the crash. No additional serious injuries have been reported.
Friends of Peralta tell News 12 he was working as an Uber Eats delivery driver and was between orders when the incident began.
The crash marks at least the second deadly incident involving a delivery driver in the Bronx in less than a month.
