A 59-year-old Patchogue man has been convicted of predatory sexual assault and related charges for forcing six women to perform oral sex at knifepoint.
Gary Conyers was sentenced Tuesday to 27 years to life in prison, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney announced.
Prosecutors said that between October and December 2023, Conyers targeted six women, forcing them to perform oral sex without their consent. At the time of the assaults, the victims were struggling with an addiction to crack-cocaine and living in poverty.
According to trial evidence, Conyers lured the women into his car or home by promising drugs, money, or a place to shower. Once alone with them, he used a knife to threaten compliance.
In several instances, prosecutors said Conyers physically assaulted the women, slashing one victim’s neck, stabbing another in the face, and strangling a woman with her scarf until she lost consciousness.
“We recognize the lasting trauma that sexual assault inflicts on survivors, and we remain committed to ensuring that all victims are treated with dignity, respect, and support throughout the justice process,” said Tierney in a statement.
Conyers was arrested on May 27, 2024. A jury found him guilty of multiple counts of predatory sexual assault, criminal sexual act, sexual abuse, assault, and one count of strangulation.
