State Republican lawmakers are calling for a hearing with the FIFA World Cup Host Committee. They want to know more about taxpayer costs, financial risks and planning tied to the upcoming matches at MetLife Stadium.

In a letter sent Thursday to both the state Senate and Assembly budget chairs, Republicans are asking for clarity on the following items:

“Conducting these hearings now will allow the Legislature to fully understand the scope of the state’s commitments and, if necessary, take appropriate action before costs escalate further,” the lawmakers wrote in the letter.
