King Charles III is set to visit New York City on Tuesday, with a stop at the 9/11 Memorial in Lower Manhattan.
The visit is part of his first trip to the United States since becoming king. It also comes as the country marks 250 years of American independence.
Officials say the king is expected to arrive at the memorial later in the afternoon for a wreath-laying ceremony. He is also expected to meet with first responders and families connected to the Sept. 11 attacks.
The visit comes as New York City approaches the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
After his stop in Lower Manhattan, the king is expected to head to Harlem for a community event focused on young people.
King Charles spoke ahead of the visit about what he hopes to accomplish during the trip.
“On this week’s visit, I look forward to meeting the people of the community of this dynamic country … helping give young people a chance to succeed across America,” he said.
The royal visit is expected to impact travel across parts of Manhattan.
The NYPD is warning of road closures, heavy security and delays, especially in Lower Manhattan. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time or use public transportation.
City officials say the visit is expected to draw large crowds and a strong police presence throughout the day.
