News 12 has obtained exclusive video showing the moment an e-bike rider was struck along a busy stretch of 8th Avenue in Sunset Park.
The crash happened just before 9 p.m. near 44th Street on Wednesday.
The video appears to show the rider heading down 8th Avenue as a double-parked van begins pulling out into the street. Seconds later, the rider is hit and falls to the ground.
People nearby can then be seen rushing over to help. The driver appears to stay on the scene.
Harry Borelli says it's scary but not surprising when asked about the incident.
“Obviously, sadness because it’s not the first time," said Borelli.
It happened blocks away from where a 75-year-old woman was hit and killed by a car in October.
Sherry Costello says it's a chaotic traffic area.
“With so many people and so many cars, it’s congested," said Costello.
The FDNY says the rider was taken to Maimonides Medical Center with serious injuries. The rider’s age and condition have not been released.
The section of 8th Avenue where the cyclist was hit does not appear to have bike lanes.
Ben Flores says it can pose challenges when navigating the roadway.
“I feel pretty OK, but there’s like an 8-ton truck behind me and not everyone feels as safe or comfortable, so I can totally see how people can be hurt," said Flores.
Police also have not said if any charges could be filed.
