A man claims he and his family were scammed out of over $600 during an apartment search.

"I don't want this to happen to anyone else," says Manach.

Manach tells News 12 that another man named Hemraj showed him an apartment on Underhill Avenue and asked for a deposit before Manach's family could move in.

"First, I gave him $30. Then the second time, $500. Third time $100," he says.

Manach says he and Hemraj spoke for months about moving into this apartment.

It's been six months since he last heard from him, and now Manach is left with no apartment and no money.

"The last time he called me was Nov. 20, 2025. After that, he vanished," says Manach.

Manach says he now wishes that he never trusted Hemraj.

"I from Guyana. He's from Guyana, you know, so I trust him. This guy could have left me in the street homeless. He don't care nothing about us," he says.

News 12 was able to speak with Hemraj over the phone. He tells News 12 he plans to give the money back when they go to court.
