The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) is hosting in-person exhibitions for the first time since a devastating fire in Red Hook last fall.

The nonprofit is now in a temporary space at Powerhouse Arts located on 3rd Avenue and 1st Street in Gowanus.

The show, titled “Unmoored / Unbound,” features more than 40 artists and speaks to perseverance and resiliency in the face of adversity.

Last September, a fire ripped through the Red Hook warehouse that the group called home for 35 years. Organizers said many artists lost pieces of work, and they cannot return to the same building.

Alicia Degener, president of BWAC, said the show is a way to celebrate all of the artists being together for the first time in 8 months.

“This is just really clutch for us,” said Degener. “That’s a long time for us not to be exhibiting and giving our artists an opportunity, and there’s just so many things you can talk about without actually getting together and being in person. So, this means a lot.”

The show runs through Aug. 9.

Degener said the organization is looking to move into a more permanent home in Brooklyn this fall.
